HDR PhotoStudio Review
HDR PhotoStudio™ Review will have to wait ’til another day sadly.
Despite having 12 gigs of ram, beefy graphics card, etc., etc. I unfortunately fell just shy of system specs to run HDR PhotoStudio because it requires a minimum of an Intel dual-core 2.5GHz, but my MacPro is only Intel dual-core 2.0GHz so I unfortunately won’t be able to review HDR PhotoStudio™ anytime soon.
Having just bought a Canon 5D mark II and about to purchase the $2500.00 Canon TS-E 17mm f/4 Tilt Shift lens, I don’t have the cash flow to buy a new beefy computer to test out HDR PhotoStudio™. Bummer. It looks very promising.

Michael – I believe that your Mac Pro should be fine for HDR PhotoStudio, as 4 cores at 2GHz is better than 2 cores at 2.5GHz. I tested it successfully on my Mac Pro 2GHz when it came out, so you should be ok.

Hi Mike
This is John from Unified Color. I saw your post, and Rick is right in his response. You system should be fine, especially given your graphics card and ton of DRAM in your system. The minimum system requirements on our download page state
CPU: Dual-core 2.0GHz minimum; quad-core, 2.8GHz is recommended for best performance.
We regularly test the software on most of the Intel based Macs at the Apple Labs, and have not had any issues with the MacPro systems.
Please download the latest 30-day trial version and give it a try.

John,
I downloaded the trial friday. Got it to mount and install fine. I even spent a couple of hours merging brackets from a recent architectural shoot and saved for later saving out to TIFFs for final Photoshop tweaks. Tonight (technically the next day) my copy is saying my 30day trial is OVER! WTF??? A 30day trial lasts a day?
Sorry man. This is strike 2 for this app. Looks like I wasted 2 hrs today and I still can’t give the app a proper review.

Michael
Have you previously run a trial version of the software on that system? If so then the 30-day trial clock count down would have started then. The way the system is set up, we only allow for one 30-day activation per machine.
It does sound like the application did work with your system configuration so that is good news.
Shoot me an email if you are still interested in reviewing the software and I can get you set up.

John,
I tried installing and running it back in February, but it was a no go (wouldn’t run on 10.4). I have since upgraded to Snow Leopard. So I guess even though it wouldn’t run back in February it did hit the system. But what makes no sense to me is why would it have worked yesterday and allow me to save both EXR and BEF files, but then a day later it stopped working.
Seems it shouldn’t have even worked for a day if it had hit the system back in February.

John Omvik had trouble posting another comment and kept getting thrown to spam so for clarity’s sake here is his comment:
“”"”Hi Michael
The trial version system is designed to offer a 1-day grace period the first time you try to use it after the 30-days have expired. Since the 30-day clock started running for you in February, that explains why you were able to use it yesterday. Sorry for the confusion, I look forward to seeing the HDR images you created with our software.
